Country Fried Steak with Gravy
Ingredients
For the Steak
- 4 cube steaks
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- Vegetable oil for frying
For the Gravy
- 3 tbsp pan drippings (or butter)
- 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Season cube steaks on both sides with salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.
- Place flour in one shallow bowl. In another bowl, whisk together eggs and milk.
- Dredge each steak in flour, dip into egg mixture, then dredge again in flour, pressing coating firmly onto the meat.
- Heat about 1/2 inch of oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Fry steaks 3 to 4 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- For the gravy, carefully pour off excess oil, leaving about 3 tablespoons of drippings in the skillet.
- Whisk in flour and cook for 1 to 2 minutes until lightly golden.
- Slowly whisk in milk, stirring constantly until smooth and thickened.
- Season with salt and black pepper.
- Serve the country fried steak hot, smothered generously with creamy gravy.
