Seared Steak Bites & Creamy Mashed Potatoes
Ingredients:
For the steak bites:
1 lb ribeye or sirloin steak, cut into cubes
Salt and black pepper
½ teaspoon of garlic powder
1 tablespoon of olive oil
2 tbsp butter
2 cloves of minced garlic
Fresh parsley (chopped) for garnish
For the mashed potatoes:
3–4 medium potatoes (peeled and cut into chunks).
3 tbsp butter
1/4 cup of heavy cream or warm milk
Salt and black pepper to taste.
Directions:
Mashed potatoes:
Boil the potatoes in salted water for around 15 minutes, until very soft.
Drain any excess water.
Mash with butter and cream or milk.
Season with salt and black pepper.
Keep warm.
Steak bites:
Pat the steak cubes dry with kitchen roll.
Season with salt, pepper and garlic powder.
Heat the olive oil in a frying pan over a high heat.
Add the steak and sear for 2–3 minutes to get a good crust.
Reduce the heat to medium, add the butter and minced garlic, then toss the steak in the garlic butter for one minute.
Remove from the heat and garnish with fresh parsley.
Plating:
Spoon the mashed potato onto the plate.
Place the steak bites on top.
Drizzle the remaining garlic butter from the pan over the steak and mashed potatoes.
Optional add-ons (which go very well with this dish):
– Spoon of brown butter over the mash
A splash of Worcestershire sauce over the steak at the end.
Lightly dust with smoked paprika.
