Pie butty
It’s simple, hearty and the ultimate in carb-on-carb comfort food. Here’s a full recipe you can follow:
🥪 Pie butty recipe
Ingredients:
- slices of thick white bread (soft loaf is best)
- Butter for spreading
- 1 meat pie (commonly steak and kidney, minced beef and onion, or chicken and mushroom – use your favourite)
- Optional extras: brown sauce, ketchup or gravy for topping.
Instructions:
Cook the pie.
- Preheat your oven to the temperature specified on the packet (usually around 180–200°C/350–400°F).
- Place the pie on a baking tray and cook until golden brown and piping hot inside (usually 20–30 minutes).
Prepare the bread.

- While the pie is cooking, generously butter two slices of fresh white bread.
- You can toast the bread lightly if you prefer a crunchier ‘butty’.
Assemble the butty:
- Place one buttered slice on a plate.
- Put the hot pie on top.
