🥓 Southern Fried Cabbage with Bacon
Ingredients:
-
6 slices bacon, chopped
-
1 medium head of cabbage, cored and sliced into strips
-
1 medium onion, chopped
-
2 cloves garlic, minced
-
Salt and black pepper, to taste
-
1–2 tbsp apple cider vinegar (optional, for brightness)
Instructions:
-
Cook the bacon: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped bacon until crispy. Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon and set aside, leaving the bacon grease in the pan.
-
Sauté the aromatics: Add the chopped onion to the skillet and cook for 2–3 minutes, until softened. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
-
Add the cabbage: Add the sliced cabbage to the pan, stirring to coat it in the bacon fat. Cook for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender but still slightly crisp.
-
Season & finish: Stir in the cooked bacon, season with salt and pepper, and (if desired) add a splash of apple cider vinegar for a tangy finish.
-
Serve: Serve hot as a side dish with fried chicken, pork chops, or cornbread.
Tip: For extra flavor, add a pinch of smoked paprika or red pepper flakes.
Enjoy this hearty Southern favorite! 🥬✨
