Dooly parton’s 5 ingredient casserole

My mom used to make this on nights when she was too tired to think but still wanted us to feel loved. That’s exactly what this is — pure comfort with almost no effort, and somehow it tastes like you spent all day in the kitchen.
The first time I pulled this out of the oven, my husband looked at me like I’d performed magic. Golden, crunchy chip topping. Creamy, cheesy chicken underneath. Five ingredients. That’s it. He went back for thirds and I didn’t even pretend to be surprised.
This is the kind of recipe you make on a Wednesday when you’re running on fumes, or a Sunday when you just want something warm and easy. It’s also dangerously good cold straight from the fridge at midnight — not that I’d know anything about that.
**INGREDIENTS:**
• 3 cups shredded cooked chicken (rotisserie is your best friend here)
• 1 (10.5 oz) can cream of chicken soup
• 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
• 1½ cups sour cream
• 1½ cups crushed butter crackers or potato chips (I use Ritz or plain Lay’s)
• 2 tablespoons melted butter
*(Swap sour cream for Greek yogurt if you want — still creamy, slightly tangier.)*
**INSTRUCTIONS:**
Preheat your oven to 350°F and lightly grease a 9×13 baking dish.
In a large bowl, mix the shredded chicken, cream of chicken soup, sour cream, and 1 cup of the cheddar cheese until everything’s coated and creamy.
Spread the mixture evenly into your prepared dish.
Sprinkle the remaining ½ cup of cheese over the top.
In a small bowl, toss the crushed crackers or chips with the melted butter until they’re coated, then scatter them evenly over the cheese layer.
Bake for 30–35 minutes, until the edges are bubbling and the topping is golden and crispy.
Let it sit for about 5 minutes before serving — if you can wait that long.
This one’s a weeknight lifesaver. Saving it for the next time you need dinner done in under an hour with ingredients you probably already have.
Who’s making this tonight?
