That photo looks like old-fashioned 4-ingredient apple dumplings—tender apple wedges wrapped in crescent dough and baked in a buttery brown-sugar sauce. The edges get caramelized while the apples turn soft and cinnamon-y. 🍎
🍎 4-Ingredient Apple Dumplings
Ingredients
- 2 large apples — Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work especially well
- 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent-roll dough
- ½ cup (1 stick) butter, melted
- ¾ cup packed brown sugar
- Optional: 1 teaspoon cinnamon, if you don’t count it as an ingredient
Instructions
- Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or similarly sized casserole dish.
- Prepare the apples.
Peel and core the apples, then cut each into 8 wedges. You should have 16 wedges.
- Wrap them.
Separate the crescent dough into triangles. Place one apple wedge at the wide end of each triangle and roll it up, tucking the dough around the apple.
- Arrange in the dish.
Place the dumplings seam-side down, leaving a little space between them.
- Make the buttery sauce.
Stir the melted butter and brown sugar together. Add cinnamon if using. Pour the mixture evenly over the dumplings.
- Bake for 35–45 minutes, until the crescent dough is deeply golden brown and the sauce is bubbling around the edges. The apples should be tender when pierced with a knife.
- Rest for 5–10 minutes.
Spoon some of that buttery caramel sauce over each dumpling.
🔥 Bonfire-style serving
Serve them warm with vanilla ice cream. The cold ice cream melting into the hot caramel sauce is the part that makes these dangerously good.
Tip: For the closest match to your photo, don’t overcrowd the dish. You want the dumplings sitting in a shallow pool of bubbling butter-sugar sauce so the bottoms caramelize while the tops become crisp and golden.
