I made this for my sister’s birthday last weekend because she’s been obsessed with anything peanut butter chocolate since we were kids, and I swear the entire pan was gone before I even got a second piece. My brother-in-law kept sneaking back to the kitchen pretending he was “just getting water” and I caught him with a fork going straight into the pan. No plate. Just pure dedication.
This Reese’s Peanut Butter Earthquake Cake is one of those dangerously easy desserts that looks like you spent hours but really just requires dumping, swirling, and baking. The name makes total sense once you cut into it—the peanut butter cream cheese layer cracks through the fudgy chocolate cake in these beautiful messy swirls, and the whole thing is covered in a glossy chocolate ganache and those little peanut butter cups on top. It’s rich, it’s indulgent, and it’s the kind of dessert people remember.
**INGREDIENTS:**
• 1 box chocolate cake mix + ingredients listed on box (usually eggs, oil, water)
• 1/2 cup butter, melted
• 8 oz cream cheese, softened
• 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
• 3 cups powdered sugar
• 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
• 1/2 cup heavy cream (for ganache)
• 1 cup mini Reese’s peanut butter cups, chopped
• Extra chocolate chips and mini Reese’s cups for topping
**INSTRUCTIONS:**
Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13 baking dish.
Prepare the chocolate cake batter according to the package directions and pour it into the prepared dish.
In a separate bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, melted butter, peanut butter, and powdered sugar until smooth and creamy.
Drop spoonfuls of the peanut butter mixture all over the top of the cake batter, then use a knife to gently swirl it through—don’t overmix, you want those gorgeous marbled pockets.
Sprinkle the chopped Reese’s cups and chocolate chips evenly over the top.
Bake for 40–45 minutes, until the edges are set but the center still has a slight jiggle (it’ll firm up as it cools).
While the cake cools, heat the heavy cream until just simmering, then pour it over 1 cup of chocolate chips and stir until silky smooth.
Pour the ganache over the cooled cake and top with extra chocolate chips and mini Reese’s cups.
Let it set for about 30 minutes before slicing.
Serve it slightly warm with a cold glass of milk and watch it disappear. Who’s eating this straight from the pan tonight?
