Ingredients

1 box white cake mix

Ingredients called for on the cake mix box (typically eggs, oil, and water)

1 box red gelatin

1 box blue gelatin

2 cups boiling water, divided

1 container whipped topping or Cool Whip

Red, white, and blue sprinkles

Fresh strawberries and blueberries (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Bake the Cake

Prepare and bake the white cake according to the package directions in a 9×13-inch baking dish.

Step 2: Cool Slightly

Allow the cake to cool for 15–20 minutes after baking.

Step 3: Poke the Holes

Using the handle of a wooden spoon or a large drinking straw, poke holes all over the cake about 1 inch apart.

Step 4: Prepare the Gelatin

In separate bowls, dissolve the red gelatin in 1 cup of boiling water and the blue gelatin in 1 cup of boiling water.

Stir until completely dissolved.

Step 5: Add the Colors

Carefully pour the red gelatin over one section of the cake and the blue gelatin over another section, allowing the liquid to soak into the holes.

For a marbled effect, alternate the colors throughout the cake.

Step 6: Chill

Refrigerate the cake for at least 2 hours, or until the gelatin is fully set.

Step 7: Frost the Cake

Spread the whipped topping evenly over the chilled cake.

Step 8: Decorate
