Fried Okra

Ingredients:

1 pound fresh okra, sliced
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup cornmeal
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon paprika
Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions:

Wash and slice the okra into bite-sized pieces.

Place the sliced okra in a bowl and pour the buttermilk over it. Let it soak for about 10 minutes.

In another bowl, combine the cornmeal, flour, salt, black pepper, and paprika.

Remove the okra from the buttermilk and dredge it in the cornmeal mixture until fully coated.

Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

Carefully add the coated okra to the hot oil in batches and fry for about 3–5 minutes until golden brown and crispy.

Transfer the fried okra to paper towels to drain excess oil.

Serve hot as a Southern side dish or snack.
