Ingredients

  • 1 loaf of bread (brioche, challah, or thick sandwich bread works best)

  • 3 large eggs

  • ½ cup milk (or cream for extra richness)

  • 2 tbsp sugar

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • ½ tsp cinnamon

  • Pinch of salt

  • Butter or cooking spray, for the pan

  • Optional toppings: maple syrup, powdered sugar, chocolate sauce, fresh berries

Instructions

  1. Prep the Bread

    • Cut the bread into bite-sized cubes, about 1–1.5 inches.

  2. Make the Egg Mixture

    • In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt.

  3. Coat the Bread

    • Dip the bread cubes into the egg mixture, ensuring each piece is well-coated.

  4. Cook

    • Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and add butter or spray with cooking spray.

    • Add the coated bread cubes in a single layer.

    • Cook for 2–3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Turn carefully to avoid breaking the cubes.

  5. Serve

    • Serve warm with maple syrup, powdered sugar, or fruit toppings.

Tips & Variations

  • Baked version: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread coated bread cubes on a greased baking sheet and bake 12–15 minutes, flipping halfway.

  • Stuffed bites: Press a small cube of cream cheese or Nutella between two bread cubes before dipping in egg mixture.

  • Savory twist: Skip the sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle with shredded cheese and herbs for a breakfast savory version.
