🥐 Italian Crescent Casserole

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef or Italian sausage

  • 1 small onion, diced

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 cup bell peppers, diced (optional)

  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning

  • ½ tsp salt, ¼ tsp black pepper

  • 1 jar (24 oz) marinara or pasta sauce

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • 2 cans (8 oz each) refrigerated crescent rolls

  • Optional: ¼ tsp red pepper flakes for a little heat

Instructions

  1. Cook the Meat & Veggies

    • In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef (or sausage) until browned.

    • Add onion, garlic, and bell peppers. Cook 3–4 minutes until softened.

    • Stir in Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and marinara sauce. Simmer for 3–5 minutes.

  2. Prepare Crescent Rolls

    • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

    • Roll out crescent dough and separate into triangles.

  3. Assemble Casserole

    • In a greased 9×13″ baking dish, spread half of the meat sauce mixture.

    • Place crescent roll triangles over the sauce, slightly overlapping to cover the bottom.

    • Spread remaining meat sauce over the top.

    • Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan cheese evenly over the top.

  4. Bake

    • Bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes, until the crescents are golden brown and cheese is melted and bubbly.

  5. Serve

    • Let the casserole cool for 5 minutes before slicing.

    • Garnish with fresh basil or parsley if desired.
