Ingredients

For the sauce:

  • ÂĽ cup low-sodium soy sauce

  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional but adds great depth)

  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce

  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar

  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch

  • ÂĽ cup beef broth or water

For the stir-fry:

  • 8 oz lo mein noodles (or spaghetti in a pinch)

  • 1 lb ground beef (lean, 85–90%)

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable or canola oil

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated (or 1 tsp ground ginger)

  • 1 small onion, sliced

  • 1 cup shredded carrots

  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced

  • 2 cups cabbage or broccoli slaw mix

  • 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cook noodles:
Cook lo mein noodles according to package directions. Drain, rinse under cool water, and set aside.

  2. Mix sauce:
In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin, brown sugar, sesame oil, cornstarch, and beef broth. Set aside.

  3. Cook beef:
Heat 1 tbsp oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart (5–6 minutes). Drain any excess fat and set aside.

  4. Stir-fry vegetables:
Add the remaining 1 tbsp oil to the pan. Add garlic, ginger, and onion; sauté for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
Add carrots, bell pepper, and cabbage (or broccoli slaw) and stir-fry for 3–4 minutes until just tender.

  5. Combine:
Return cooked beef to the pan. Pour in the sauce and toss to coat. Add cooked noodles and stir until everything is evenly mixed and heated through (about 2 minutes).

  6. Garnish & serve:
Top with chopped green onions and serve hot.
