Southern Beef and Gravy
Ingredients:
700 g beef stew meat or sirloin, cut into bite-sized pieces
2 tbsp olive oil
1 small onion, sliced
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
2 cups beef broth
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tsp dried thyme
2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (for garnish)
Directions:
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
Season the beef with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper, then brown on all sides.
Add the onion and cook for 3–4 minutes, then stir in the garlic.
Sprinkle the flour over the beef and stir for 1 minute.
Gradually pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring until smooth.
Add the thyme, cover, and simmer for 1½–2 hours, until the beef is fork-tender and the gravy has thickened.
Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or biscuits.
