 Southern Fried Catfish

A true Southern classic — crispy on the outside, tender and flaky on the inside.
Simple ingredients, big flavor, and perfect for a comforting homemade meal.

 Ingredients

• 4 catfish fillets
• 1 cup cornmeal
• 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
• 1/2 teaspoon paprika
• 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
• 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
• 1 cup buttermilk
• Vegetable oil for frying
• Lemon wedges (for serving)

 How to Make It

1️⃣ Pat the catfish fillets dry with paper towels.
2️⃣ Pour the buttermilk into a bowl and soak the fillets for 10–15 minutes.
3️⃣ In another bowl, mix cornmeal, flour, salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder.
4️⃣ Remove the fillets from the buttermilk and coat them well in the cornmeal mixture. Press lightly so the coating sticks.

 Heat 2–3 cm of vegetable oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat.
6️⃣ Carefully place the fish in the hot oil and fry 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
7️⃣ Transfer to a plate lined with paper towels to remove excess oil.

 Serve With

• Fresh lemon wedges
• Coleslaw
• French fries
• Cornbread
