🧂 Ingredients
For the crust and topping:

1 cup (2 sticks / 226 g) unsalted butter, softened

1 ½ cups granulated sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 tsp almond extract (optional, but lovely with cherries)

1 tsp baking powder

For the filling:

1 can (21 oz / 595 g) cherry pie filling
(or use 2 cups homemade cherry filling if you prefer)
For the glaze (optional but delicious):

1 cup powdered sugar

2–3 tbsp milk

½ tsp vanilla or almond extract

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Grease or line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper. -
Make the crust/topping dough:

In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

Beat in vanilla and almond extracts.

In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the butter mixture until crumbly.

Assemble the bars:

Press about ⅔ of the dough firmly into the bottom of the prepared pan.

Spread the cherry pie filling evenly over the crust.

Crumble the remaining dough over the top (don’t worry about covering it completely — the cherries peeking through look beautiful!).

Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the top is lightly golden brown.

Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and extract until smooth.
