Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (80/20 for juiciness)

Salt & black pepper

4 burger buns
-
4 slices cheese (American, cheddar, or Swiss)

Butter or oil for pan/grill
Optional Toppings
Lettuce • tomato • onion • pickles • bacon • ketchup • mustard • mayo
Instructions
Form the Patties

Divide beef into 4 loose balls (don’t overwork).

Gently flatten into patties slightly wider than the buns.

Make a thumb indent in the center (prevents puffing).

Season generously with salt & pepper.
Cook
Grill or Skillet (medium-high heat):

Heat pan or grill; lightly oil.

Cook patties 3–4 minutes per side.

Add cheese during last minute; cover to melt.

Toast buns in butter until golden.
Build the Burger
Bottom bun → patty → cheese → toppings → sauce → top bun
Pro Tips

Don’t press the burgers while cooking (keeps them juicy).

Season right before cooking for best texture.

For smash burgers: press thin in a hot skillet and cook fast.
