My husband walked in from the garage, took one look at this pan, and said “we’re eating this for dinner, right?” before I could even answer.
There’s something about cowboy baked beans that just hits different. Maybe it’s the way the beef gets all caramelized with the brown sugar, or how the onions soften into the sauce until everything tastes like it’s been slow-cooking at a campfire for hours. This is the kind of food that makes people go quiet at potlucks because they’re too busy eating.
I’m not fancy about it either. I start with a couple cans of Bush’s baked beans because honestly, why reinvent perfection? But then I brown up some ground beef with Worcestershire sauce, a good handful of brown sugar, diced onions, and whatever herb seasoning I’m feeling that day. The kitchen smells like a backyard BBQ by the time it’s all bubbling together.
• 1 tsp minced garlic
• Salt & pepper to taste
**INSTRUCTIONS:**
Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat until no longer pink.
Add the diced onion and minced garlic, cooking until the onion softens and smells sweet.
Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, and seasoning, letting everything caramelize together for about 2 minutes.
Pour in both cans of baked beans and stir until the beef mixture is fully mixed in.
Let it simmer on low for 10–15 minutes until the sauce thickens and everything melds together beautifully.
Transfer to a baking dish or keep it in the foil pan, and bake at 350°F for 20 minutes if you want that bubbly, slightly caramelized top.
Serve it warm with cornbread, over rice, or honestly just grab a spoon.
Would you add bacon to this or keep it simple?
