Ingredients
- 3 cups sugar
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 5 eggs
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp lemon extract (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven
Heat oven to 325°F (165°C). Grease and flour a Bundt or tube pan. - Cream butter and sugar
Beat butter, shortening, and sugar until light and fluffy. - Add eggs
Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each. - Mix dry ingredients
In another bowl, combine flour and baking powder. - Alternate flour and milk
Add flour mixture and milk a little at a time, mixing gently. - Add flavoring
Stir in vanilla and lemon extract. - Bake
Pour batter into pan and bake 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. - Cool & serve
Let cool in the pan for 10–15 minutes before removing.
Optional Glaze
Mix together:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2–3 tbsp milk
- Splash of vanilla or lemon juice
Drizzle over the cooled cake.
