Aunt Faye’s Pound Cake

Ingredients

  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 5 eggs
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp lemon extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven
    Heat oven to 325°F (165°C). Grease and flour a Bundt or tube pan.
  2. Cream butter and sugar
    Beat butter, shortening, and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs
    Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each.
  4. Mix dry ingredients
    In another bowl, combine flour and baking powder.
  5. Alternate flour and milk
    Add flour mixture and milk a little at a time, mixing gently.
  6. Add flavoring
    Stir in vanilla and lemon extract.
  7. Bake
    Pour batter into pan and bake 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Cool & serve
    Let cool in the pan for 10–15 minutes before removing.

Optional Glaze

Mix together:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2–3 tbsp milk
  • Splash of vanilla or lemon juice

Drizzle over the cooled cake.
