Toll House Famous Fudge

Ingredients

  • 1½ cups granulated sugar

  • ⅔ cup (5 fl oz) evaporated milk (not sweetened condensed milk)

  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • 2 cups mini marshmallows (or about 20 large, cut up)

  • 1½ cups (9 oz) Nestlé Toll House Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels

  • ½ cup chopped nuts (optional, traditional choice is walnuts or pecans)

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the pan:
Line an 8-inch square baking pan with foil or parchment paper. Lightly butter the foil and set aside.

  2. Cook the base mixture:
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine:

    • Sugar

    • Evaporated milk

    • Butter

    • Salt

Bring to a rolling boil, stirring constantly.
Boil for 4–5 minutes, stirring continuously, to prevent scorching.

  3. Add the chocolate and marshmallows:
    Remove the saucepan from heat.
Quickly stir in the marshmallows, chocolate morsels, nuts (if using), and vanilla extract.
Stir vigorously until the marshmallows and chocolate are completely melted and the mixture is smooth.

  4. Pour and set:
Immediately pour the fudge into the prepared pan.
    Spread evenly with a spatula.

  5. Cool and cut:
Chill in the refrigerator for about 2 hours, or until firm.
Lift from pan, remove foil, and cut into 1-inch squares.
