1 cup (2 sticks / 226 g) unsalted butter, softened

1 tsp vanilla extract

For the filling:

1 can (21 oz / 595 g) cherry pie filling
(or use 2 cups homemade cherry filling if you prefer)
For the glaze (optional but delicious):

1 cup powdered sugar

2β3 tbsp milk

Β½ tsp vanilla or almond extract

Preheat oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C).
Grease or line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper. -
Make the crust/topping dough:

In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

Beat in vanilla and almond extracts.

In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the butter mixture until crumbly.

Assemble the bars:

Press about β of the dough firmly into the bottom of the prepared pan.

Spread the cherry pie filling evenly over the crust.

Crumble the remaining dough over the top (donβt worry about covering it completely β the cherries peeking through look beautiful!).

Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and extract until smooth.
