🎶 The Five-Layer Dolly Parton Dinner

A wholesome, Southern-style layered casserole with meat, veggies, creamy potatoes, cheese, and biscuits.

📝 Ingredients (Serves 6–8)

Layer 1 – Savory Meat Base

  • 1 lb ground beef or ground sausage

  • 1 small onion, diced

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • Salt & pepper to taste

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

Layer 2 – Country Vegetables

  • 1 can (15 oz) mixed vegetables or 1½ cups frozen mixed vegetables

  • 1 cup corn (optional)

  • Salt & pepper

Layer 3 – Creamy Sauce

  • 1 can cream of chicken soup (or mushroom)

  • ½ cup sour cream

  • ½ cup shredded cheddar

  • ½ tsp dried thyme

Layer 4 – Cheesy Potato Layer

  • 3 cups mashed potatoes (leftover or freshly made)

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar or Colby Jack

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • Pinch of salt

Layer 5 – Biscuit Topping

  • 1 can refrigerated biscuits or homemade biscuit dough

  • 1–2 tbsp melted butter for brushing

🍳 Instructions

1. Prepare the meat layer

  1. Brown the beef or sausage in a large skillet with diced onion and garlic.

  2. Season with salt, pepper, paprika, and Worcestershire.

  3. Cook until no pink remains, then spread evenly into the bottom of a 9×13 baking dish.

2. Add the vegetable layer

  1. Spread the mixed vegetables evenly over the meat layer.

  2. Lightly season.

3. Make the creamy layer

  1. In a bowl, mix soup, sour cream, shredded cheese, and thyme.

  2. Pour and spread this mixture over the vegetables.

4. Spread the potato layer

  1. Mix mashed potatoes with butter and cheese.

  2. Spoon over the creamy layer and spread evenly.

5. Add the biscuit topping

  1. Arrange biscuits on top of the potatoes (touching or spaced slightly).

  2. Brush with melted butter.

6. Bake

  • Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 35–40 minutes,
    or until biscuits are golden and the layers are bubbling.

7. Serve

Let sit for 5–10 minutes before slicing.
Perfect with sweet tea or cornbread on the side.

  • Sweet heat: Add jalapeños to the veggie layer.

  • Smoky flavor: Use smoked paprika or smoked sausage.

  • Extra comfort: Add a layer of caramelized onions.
