Old Fashioned Custard Pie

Ingredients

  • 1 unbaked deep-dish pie shell

  • 3 large eggs

  • ½ cup sugar

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • 2 ⅔ cups milk

  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. In a large bowl, lightly beat the eggs.

  3. Add sugar, salt, nutmeg, milk, and vanilla extract.
    Mix until well combined (do not overbeat).

  4. Carefully pour the custard mixture into the unbaked pie shell.

  5. Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean.

  6. Remove from oven and allow to cool completely.

  7. Sprinkle the top with freshly grated nutmeg before serving.


🍰 Tips for Perfect Custard Pie

  • For extra smooth texture, warm the milk slightly before mixing.

  • Place the pie dish on a baking sheet before filling to prevent spills.

  • Custard will continue to set as it cools.
