Old-Fashioned Banana Cream Pie

This classic, creamy dessert is smooth, sweet and full of banana flavour. With its buttery crust, luscious custard and fluffy whipped topping, it’s the perfect nostalgic treat for any occasion.

Ingredients:

  1. Pie crust (store-bought or homemade);
  2. ripe bananas;
  3. sugar;
  4. cornflour;
  5. salt;
  6. milk;
  7. eggs;
  8. butter;
  9. vanilla extract;
  10.  whipped cream for the topping.

Instructions:

Pre-bake the pie crust according to the package instructions or your favourite recipe, then leave it to cool. In a saucepan, whisk together the sugar, cornflour and a pinch of salt. Gradually add the milk, stirring constantly, and cook over a medium heat until the mixture has thickened.

In a small bowl, beat the eggs, then slowly temper them with some of the hot milk mixture before returning them to the saucepan.
Stir until the mixture has fully thickened, then remove it from the heat and add the butter and vanilla.

Slice the bananas and layer them in the cooled crust. Pour the custard over the top. Chill until set, then spread with whipped cream before serving. Enjoy this classic, creamy banana dessert that never goes out of style!
