My grandma used to make this for every single holiday, and the house would just fill with the most incredible, sweet, custardy aroma.
It’s a simple buttermilk pie, but there’s something so comforting about that perfect, slightly tangy sweetness paired with a flaky crust. Every slice is like a bite of pure nostalgia for me.
Ingredients:
1 stick butter, softened
2 cups sugar
3 large eggs
1 cup buttermilk
3 heaping tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
Dash of nutmeg
Instructions:
Cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
Beat in the eggs one at a time.
Whisk in the buttermilk, flour, vanilla, salt, and nutmeg until just combined.
Pour the batter into a prepared pie crust.
Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 45-55 minutes, or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean and the top is a beautiful golden brown. Let it cool completely before slicing – it sets up as it cools.
This pie is so ridiculously good. Who would you share the first slice with?
