🍍 Homemade King Hawaiian–Style Rolls or Loaf

Âľ cup pineapple juice (warm, not hot)

ÂĽ cup milk (warm)

2ÂĽ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)

1 tsp salt

2 large eggs (room temp)

4 tbsp butter, melted (plus more for brushing)

4–4½ cups all-purpose flour
Instructions

Activate the yeast
In a large bowl, combine warm pineapple juice, warm milk, and sugar.
Sprinkle yeast on top. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy. -
Mix the dough
Add eggs, melted butter, and salt. Mix well.
Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms. -
Knead
Knead by hand 8–10 minutes or with a mixer 5–6 minutes, until smooth and elastic. -
First rise
Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise 1–1½ hours, until doubled.
🥖 For Rolls

Shape
Divide dough into 12–15 equal pieces. Shape into balls and place in a greased baking dish. -
Second rise
Cover and let rise 30–45 minutes, until puffy. -
Bake
Bake at 180°C / 350°F for 18–22 minutes, until golden. -
Finish
Brush hot rolls with melted butter.
🍞 For a Loaf

Shape
Shape dough into a loaf and place in a greased loaf pan. -
Second rise
Let rise 45–60 minutes, until dough crowns the pan. -
Bake
Bake at 180°C / 350°F for 28–35 minutes. -
Finish
Brush with melted butter while warm.
Tips for authentic softness

Don’t add too much flour—slightly sticky dough = softer bread

Use all-purpose flour, not bread flour

Brush with butter twice (once right out of oven, once 5 minutes later)
