Old-Time Oven Peach Cobbler

🍑 Filling

Ingredients

  • 4 cups sliced peaches (fresh or canned, drained)

  • ¾ cup sugar

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • ¼ tsp nutmeg (optional but very old-school)

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • 1 tbsp cornstarch (optional, for thicker syrup)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Mix peaches, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, lemon juice, and cornstarch.

  3. Spread evenly in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.

🧈 Cobbler Batter

Ingredients

  • 1 stick (½ cup) butter

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1 tbsp baking powder

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • ¾ cup milk

  1. Melt butter directly in the baking dish in the oven.

  2. In a bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

  3. Stir in milk until smooth.

  4. Pour batter over the melted butter—do NOT stir.

  1. Spoon peaches and syrup gently over the batter (still don’t stir).

  2. Bake uncovered 40–45 minutes until golden and bubbly.

  3. Let cool 10–15 minutes to thicken.
