Grilled cheeseburger sandwich plate
Ingredients (serves 1–2)
For the burger and sandwich:
1 beef burger patty (or chicken or turkey if you prefer)
Salt and black pepper, to taste
½ tsp garlic powder
½ tsp paprika
1 tablespoon of oil or butter
1 small onion, sliced
1 small tomato, sliced
Lettuce leaves
1 slice cheddar cheese (or more)
2 slices of sandwich bread (white or wholemeal)
Butter for grilling the bread.
Sides:
Potato crisps (plain or flavoured).
1 dill pickle (whole or sliced)
👩🍳 Instructions:
1. Grill the onions.
Heat a pan over a medium heat.
Add 1 tablespoon of oil or butter.
Add the sliced onions and cook until soft and lightly caramelised (5–7 minutes).
Set aside.
2. Cook the burger.
Season the patty with salt, pepper, garlic powder and paprika.
In the same pan, cook the burger over a medium heat for 3–4 minutes on each side.
3–4 minutes per side (or until fully cooked).
Place the cheese on top during the last minute, covering the pan so it melts.
3. Toast the bread.
Butter one side of each slice of bread.
Toast in a pan until golden brown and crispy.
4. Assemble the sandwich:
Layer it like this:
Toasted bread
Burger with melted cheese
grilled onions
Tomato slices
Lettuce.
Top with a second slice of bread.
Serve.
Plate up the sandwich with:
A handful of crisps.
and a crisp dill pickle on the side.
Optional add-ons:
Mustard, mayonnaise or ketchup.
Pickles inside the sandwich
Fried egg on top.
Swap the bread for brioche or Texas toast.
