Dorito Taco Salad

Ingredients

For the Salad

  • 1 lb ground beef (or turkey)

  • 1 packet taco seasoning

  • 1 large head romaine or iceberg lettuce, chopped

  • 1–2 cups cherry tomatoes, halved

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheese

  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained & rinsed (optional)

  • 1 can (15 oz) corn, drained (optional)

  • ½ cup sliced black olives (optional)

Crunch + Dressing

  • 1 medium bag Nacho Cheese Doritos, lightly crushed

  • 1 bottle Catalina dressing or French dressing (or use ranch if preferred)

  • Sour cream & sliced green onions for topping (optional)

🔥 Instructions

1. Cook the taco meat

  1. Brown ground beef in a skillet over medium heat.

  2. Drain if needed.

  3. Add taco seasoning + water according to packet instructions.

  4. Let cool slightly (warm is fine, just not piping hot).

2. Build the salad

In a large bowl, layer:

  1. Lettuce

  2. Tomatoes

  3. Cheese

  4. Beans, corn, and olives (if using)

  5. Cooled taco meat

3. Add crunch + dressing

Right before serving:

  1. Add crushed Doritos.

  2. Drizzle Catalina/French dressing (start with ½ cup and adjust).

  3. Toss well to coat.

4. Serve

Top with sour cream, green onions, or extra cheese if desired.

💡 Tips & Variations

  • Make-ahead: Prep everything except Doritos and dressing. Add those right before serving so it stays crunchy.

  • Healthier option: Use baked tortilla chips and a light dressing.

  • Fiesta version: Add avocado, jalapeños, or fresh corn.

  • Protein swaps: Chicken, ground turkey, or even pinto beans for a vegetarian version.
